Second Batch of Acts announced for SPOT 2018
The second round of names for this year’s SPOT 2018 has been announced and there are plenty of up-and-coming acts as well as already established Nordic artists that you need to keep an extra eye on.
Albert af Ektam (SE), ANYA, BAEST, Frida Sundemo (SE), Sassy 009 (NO), IAMJJ, Molina, Cezinando (NO), and Hugo Helmig, just to name a few, are making their apperance at SPOT.
ANYA is one of the most promising Danish R’n’B singers right now. She has released several singles over the past two years, which have all been well received, and her long-awaited debut album is almost ready. At the other end of the genre spectrum we have death metal band BEAST. Their music draws inspiration from old-school death metal but the sound is very original. The five guys from Aarhus have gotten international attention and in January they played Eurosonic Noorderslag.
Dark-voiced Danish crooner IAMJJ is a busy man. With a planned mini tour in Germany, a new single just released and a debut album out in March, he has a lot things going on right now. The Line Of Best Fit has praised Molinas’ stylish synth pop and elegant voice – and Sir Elton John is among her admirers! Hugo Helmig, son of one the most POPular Danish singers, Thomas Helmig, has put his name on the musical map in no time. With a strong singer-songwriter appeal and tracks with a personal mix of soul, funk and blues, there is a lot hype around him, and his potential is extraordinary.
And to our Nordic neighbours, Sweden presents two exciting names: Singer Frida Sundemo (SE), with her electronic and orchestral pop music released to high praise. And Albert af Ektam (SE), who plays melancholic and heartfelt songs, draws on inspiration from Bon Iver amongst others. His debut album from 2017 “Ashes” is a true singer-songwriter gem.
The Norwegians also add to the lineup: Electronic all female pop trio Sassy 009 got very positive press mentions in the wake of releasing the EP “Do You Mind”. And in the hip-hop department, Cezinando, stands out as a very young, very productive artist with the song “Nogen ganger og andre” nominated for the prestigious award “Osloprisen 2017”.
