Good Because Danish

This powerful girl hit us hard with her single ’B**ch U Look Good’. Her music says one thing for sure and it says it well: rock’n’roll will never ever die and there is tons of space for confident, rockin’ women in the genre. Wild sound and scratchy vocals with an attitude, worth seeing live for sure.

Humbly self-described as ’just a drummer pretending to be a frontman’, Esben Svane is actually a man of many talents: a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer. Having put so much soul and passion into making his new album, ’A Good Adjustment to Reality’, The Radar Post came out with a very sincere, wholehearted LP. Songs such as ’Pilots’, ’Ladder’ and the older ballad ’Traces’ showcase the best of that sincerity and what The Radar Post is all about.

The indie outfit from Copenhagen may not be new to SPOT, but this year they’re coming back armed with fresh music from their album ’Forever Trouble’. The ever so dreamy vibe of their sound has taken a turn towards a more serious direction, which GAFFA has compared to the likes of Suede. Admittedly, a song like ’Light The Candle’ has all the attitude of an arena ballad. More new music and more touring is on the calendar of Virgin Suicide in 2018.

Rising stars Barselona have taken Denmark by storm over the past year: playing at Roskilde Festival before even releasing their debut EP, ’Drengepop’, and touring with The Minds Of 99 are just two of their many achievements. 2nd EP, ’Sommerkys’, featuring bangers such as ’Tættere På Hende’ and ’Et År’ cemented Barselona’s status as one of the most exciting Danish bands. The fresh and energetic pop tunes of the teenager duo are guaranteed to make you dance ’ so even though it’s their first time playing SPOT, it is going to be a memorable one.

Good pop music, which has its own style and is able to interest the listener, is not something very common to hear these days. Christine Kiberg, a.k.a. Ea Kaya brings a new quality and freshness in this area for sure. With her debut single, ’Remedy’, a great pop piece with a hint of r’n’b here and there, she made us hungry for more and curious about her live performance.

We see a lot of new DK acts circulating around pop, r’n’b and hiphop music in this year’s SPOT line-up. One of those which really caught our attention is the duo FOOL. Why? Because they are something different with their light, yet not trivial songs which make anyone bounce within seconds.

Theis Vesterløkke and Niels Fejrskov Juhl are out there conquering Europe with their synths, drum machines and lyrics that may or may not trigger a brief existential crisis. Truly, the atmosphere they created on the latest album, ’About Time’, is so raw and special, it almost makes you not want to share the experience, but keep it all to yourself. However, we at Good Because Danish are not greedy, and we invite you all to see GENTS at SPOT 2018 with us!

IKI is a one of a kind acapella project of five talented women. The hypnotic, mystical experience while listening to their music is unique. In their new release, ’Oracle’, they teamed up with Mike Sheridan and the mix of vocal experiments, raw, minimalistic sounds coming out of the electronic world and ’ we are sure ’ great visuals during the show ’ guarantee a very special and intense live show.

KIHLA is a talented 20-year-old cool woman from Aalborg who’s sound is a mixture of pop and r’n’b beats as well as jazz influences which come with emotional lyrics and beautiful soft melodies. Not only did she convince us with her colorful sound, but she also won the Spinnup Scholarship at the end of 2017 which is given to new Danish talents. We are blown away by her talent and deep tracks and look forward to seeing her perform at this year’s festival.
